Loneliness and depression symptoms among the elderly in nursing homes: A moderated mediation model of resilience and social support

Dramatic aging of population, as a result of increased life expectancy and reduced mortality (Tarakci et al., 2015), has become a global phenomenon. In 2000-2025, the speed of population aging, which indicates the average annual increase rate of the 60 and over segment in the total population during a given period, is rapid (2.7%) in China, higher than that of the developed countries (average 1.5%) (Mo and L égaré, 2004). It is predicted that the population aging would peak in 2050, with the elderly aged 60 and above accounting for 1/4 of the total population (Guo, 2010).
