Cannabis accounts for over 75% of all federally illicit drug use in the United States alone (Ramesh and Haney, 2015). As legal restrictions ease and access to cannabis increases, many view cannabis as a low-risk recreational alternative to other drugs (Hall and Kozlowski, 2017). Regardless, 2-6% of cannabis users in the United States will develop some level of dependence (Hasin et al., 2016), as defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) as Cannabis Use Disorder (CUD).
