Primary evidence of the mechanisms of action of HIV aspartyl peptidase inhibitors on Trypanosoma cruzi trypomastigote forms
Chagas disease is caused by the protozoand Trypanosoma cruzi and is a well-knownd neglected endemic disease in Latin America. This disease has also become a public health problem in North America and in many European and some Western Pacific countries because of population migration from endemic areas [1]. An estimated 7 –10 million people are chronically infected with T. cruzi and 10–14 thousand deaths per year are caused by the parasite [1].
