Isolated popliteal tendon avulsions: Current understanding and approach to management

Publication date: Available online 21 February 2018Source: Journal of Arthroscopy and Joint SurgeryAuthor(s): Peter Annear, Manit AroraAbstractIsolated popliteal tendon avulsions are rare injuries with less than 20 cases reported in the literature. Clinical suspicion of injury is aided by MRI findings. Due to the paucity of literature there is a lack of consensus as to the best management for such injuries. Both non-operative and operative treatment options have been reported to be successful. We proposed a treatment algorithm based on our findings of the literature with a trial of 3 months of non-operative treatment followed by delayed surgical repair in refractory cases.
