Vitamin D supplementation in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Vitamin D receptors and vitamin D metabolizing enzymes are common in the central nervous system and are involved in the brain at many levels and functions. In animal studies, vitamin D has been shown to promote gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase gene expression, thereby stimulating the formation of glutathione, the most important antioxidant in the brain (Garcion et al., 1999).
