Measuring Tape for Children

The Mercy TAPE, which stands for “TAking the guesswork out of Pediatric weight Estimation,” is based on a technique called the Mercy Method that estimates weight based on the length and circumference of the upper arm. The Mercy TAPE, which looks like a tape measure, translates the measurements into a weight that is displayed directly on the device and requires only basic addition by the user.   Researchers from Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics in Kansas City, MO, found that the tape, which estimates the weight of pediatric patients ages 2 months to 16 years, is more accurate than other methods currently available for children. It works just as well in underweight and overweight children as it does in those of normal weight.   For more information, visit childrensmercy.org.Tags: Mercy TAPE, Mercy Method, Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics, Body weight Published: 6/7/2013 9:20:00 AM
