Why Doesn't America Like Its Children?

“There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children,” So said Nelson Mandela at the launch of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund, and he was right.1 Equally, it goes without saying that a nation's children are its future. So it would follow, one wo uld assume, that any rational social policy would emphasis the care and nurturing of children. But it does not follow. By any one of a dozen social outcome data assessments, America doesn't like its children, and is making no preparations for their future.
