Understanding Factors That Influence the Demand for Dialysis among Elderly in a Multi-Ethnic Asian Society
For end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients who are unlikely to receive a transplant, dialysis is typically first line treatment. This recommendation results because of the large literature showing the cost-effectiveness of dialysis for the majority of ESRD patients [1]. Patients can chose between haemodialysis (HD), which takes place in a dialysis centre, or peritoneal dialysis (PD), which can be performed at home but on a more frequent basis.
