Evaluating the Aptima HIV-1 Quant Dx, HCV Quant Dx and HBV Quant assays against the Abbott HIV-1, HCV and HBV RealTime assays

Viral load measurements with quantitative nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs) are part of the clinical management of patients infected with HIV, HCV or HBV [1 –6]. Automated platforms that perform a wide array of assays, such as the Hologic Panther platform are increasingly becoming a practical solution for busy diagnostic Virology laboratories. Therefore it is important to perform verifications of multiple assays simultaneously before introducing new p latforms into the laboratory. However, platforms are not all equivalent in terms of turnaround time, random access capability and operator hands on time [7–8].
