“Turn on the Lights”

A 10-year-old girl presented to the emergency department with loss of consciousness after being trapped in a building that caught on fire. She was previously healthy with no medical or ocular history and no pertinent family history. The child was intubated in the emergency department and was treated for carbon monoxide poisoning and second degree burns over her left lower leg. She was extubated several days later and regained consciousness; the first thing she said was: “Turn on the lights!” The child also reported having continuous headaches.
