Effect of Acetylsalicylic Acid on Uterine Blood Flow and Feto-Placental Development in Pregnant Mares

Colour Doppler sonography illustrates a rise in uterine blood flow during pregnancy in mares. Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) inhibits platelet aggregation and is used to increase uterine blood flow in women. First studies indicated an increase in uterine perfusion in cyclic mares (Bollwein et al. Theriogenology 61 (2004) 301 –309). The aim of the present study was to analyze the effect of ASA on uterine blood flow, placental development and foal birth weight in mares with previously physiological (n=12) and disturbed pregnancies (n=4).
