Influence of Parity on Oxidative Status in Pregnant, Peripartum and Postpartum Mares

Several studies on oxidative status during pregnancy and in the postpartum period are found in women, as is it well recognized that oxidative stress plays an important role in diseases. In mares, few studies evaluating oxidative profile during this period are found. It is well established that several metabolic alterations take place during pregnancy, characterized by high metabolic and energetic demand, especially of oxygen which could increase the production of reactive species and predispose the organism to oxidative stress.
