Caries in adolescents

During adolescence, individuals undergo numerous physical and social changes, as well as changes in behavior. Few studies have focused on caries in adolescents. Some have identified certain risk factors for caries among adolescents, including lower socioeconomic status, daily consumption of sugary drinks, not eating breakfast, and infrequent tooth brushing. Relatively few of these studies are longitudinal investigations, however. With this lack of research, there is  a need for better understanding the caries risk of adolescents and factors that contribute to that risk.
