Development of a standardized real time PCR for Torque Teno Viruses (TTV) viral load detection and quantification: a new tool for immune monitoring

TTV replication is closely linked to immune status modifications and viral load is now considered as a potential tool for the follow-up of immune status in post transplantation patients. TTV potential as an immunosuppression biomarker has been recently underlined by several publications in various clinical settings [1 –5]. TTV are small DNA viruses discovered in 1997 that represent the most abundant component of the human virome [5]. TTV is ubiquitous and highly prevalent in the general population worldwide [6], with 90% of the human population infected and so far, not associated with a pathology or clinical di sease [7,8].
