Novel score predicts risk for cytomegalovirus infection in ulcerative colitis
Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) such as ulcerative colitis (UC) are affecting increasing numbers of patients in the industrialized world with current prevalence rates UC exceeding 200 – 250/100.000 [1]. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections, are associated with UC aggravation complicating disease management or as a complication of the treatment itself [2,3]. The prevalence of CMV colitis in UC patients has been estimated to range from 21% to 36% [4,5].
