Michel Jouvet and "exotic" sleep

Michel Jouvet was the director of my medical doctorate that was obtained in 1969 after 4 years of work on paradoxical sleep in cat. He also directed my Ph.D. in 1984, which was focused on sleep in extreme environments (Antarctica, Arctic winter cold, physical exercise). Effectively, as an MD, I was firstly posted in Antarctica for 13 months, and I recorded polysomnography throughout the wintering in 8 of my comrades. Michel Jouvet offered me to use the laboratory facilities to analyze the data. He also accepted to caution my work on sleep in Antarctica, which was finally published with him in Sleep in 1987.
