Molecular characterization of early precursor lesions of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma
Objectives Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an aggressive disease with high mortality rates due to late diagnosis and rapid progression. Therefore, better tools for earlier detection are urgently needed. The most common PDAC precursor lesions are pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PanIN) and intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN). The gastric subtype of IPMN shares morphological homologies with PanIN and the two lesions are currently distinguished only according to their size.
