Alcohol consumption and smoking synergize with each other and increase the risk of local complications in acute pancreatitis

Objectives To examine the clinical effects of alcohol consumption and/or smoking in patients with acute pancreatitis (AP). Both alcohol consumption and cigarette smoking have been reported to have harmful effects on the pancreas. These addictions very often go together, therefore careful investigations are crucially needed to understand their independent/synergic effects on the pancreas.
