Investigation of CFTR and SLC26A6 transporters in the course of acute pancreatitis

Objectives Several apical ion transporters like cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) and the SLC26A6 anion exchanger are involved in Cl-, HCO3- and fluid secretion of pancreatic ductal cells. Previous studies have shown that impaired function of CFTR worsens the course of acute pancreatitis (AP). However, it is unclear, how AP affects the function of CFTR and SLC26A6 transporters. Therefor, our aims were to examine the expression and function of CFTR and SLC26A6 in normal and pathological conditions of the pancreas.
