Pancreatogenic diabetes mellitus – Prevalence and risk factors

Objectives Pancreatogenic or pancreoprivic (type 3c) diabetes mellitus (DM) represents the diabetes that occurs secondary to diseases of the exocrine pancreas – chronic pancreatitis (CP), post-necrotizing acute pancreatitis (NAP), pancreatic resections (PR), and pancreatic tumors (PT). Although it’s a relative common finding in gastroenterology wards, it’s often underdiagnosed or mislabeled as type 2 DM, although their clinical and laboratory charac teristics are different. Our aim was to evaluate the prevalence and risk factors associated with pancreatogenic DM.
