Serum amylase levels in the first postoperative day after pancreaticoduodenectomy: What are they related to and what can they predict?

Objectives Serum amylase values in the first postoperative day after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) are part of the diagnosis of acute postoperative pancreatitis(PAP). Still there are some evidences that they can also be related to others postoperative complications as pancreatic fistula (PF).The aim of the study was to evaluate the role of serum amylase levels in the first postoperative day, their correlation with the development of PAP and PF in a multivariate approach.
