L-histidine but not other basic amino acid-induced pancreatitis in mice involves inositol trisphosphate receptor signalling and mitochondrial permeability transition
Objectives The basic amino acids L-arginine, L-ornithine and L-lysine can trigger acute pancreatitis (AP), but the mechanisms of toxicity are not well understood. We compared a newly developed L-histidine model of AP with standard L-arginine and L-ornithine models and found remarkable differences in the mechanisms of toxicity and pharmacological profiles.
