Healthcare professionals ’ experiences and attitudes towards family-witnessed resuscitation: a cross-sectional study

Family-witnessed resuscitation (FWR) offers the option for patients ’ family members to be present during a cardiac arrest. This has been proven to help them in their grieving process after witnessing an in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) [1] and also resulted in less symptoms of post-traumatic stress, depression and anxiety when compared to a control group with an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) [2,3]. The first paper on this topic was introduced 30 years ago [4]. Since then little has changed in clinical practice, despite the introduction of international guidelines that recommend that family members should be offered the opportunity to be present if IHCA occurs [5,6].
