Reinitiation of Electroconvulsive Therapy Four Weeks After the Diagnosis of ECT-Induced Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TCM) involves transient cardiac dysfunction that is experienced most commonly as shortness of breath, chest pain or syncope.1 Per the International Takotsubo Registry study, a physical source is the most common inciting stressor (36%), followed by triggers that are unknown (28.5%), emotional (27.7%), or both emotional and physical (7.8%).1 The phenomenon is seen most often in postmenopausal women.1,2
