Non-Weight-Related Body Image Concerns and Body Dysmorphic Disorder Prevalence in Patients with Anorexia Nervosa

Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is a psychiatric condition characterized by concerns regarding one or more perceived defects in physical appearance that are not observable to others (American  Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013). Appearance concern is often focused on skin, hair, and nose (Phillips and Diaz, 1997; Phillips et al., 1993; Veale et al., 1996); however, it may involve any body areas (Veale, 2000) and individuals with BDD may be simultaneously concerned with multiple bod y parts (Phillips et al., 2005).
