Disability, stress, and health disparities

Issues of anxiety, depression, and stress have long been a part of disability research and rehabilitation interventions for people with disability, especially those who have sustained traumatic injuries.1 More recently, there have been increasing reports about anxiety and stress in families of children with newly diagnosed disorders or with parents needing to provide chronic support and advocacy,2,3 people with new onset disability from any cause,4 and people who have experienced intense hospitalizations, such as in the intensive care unit.
