Management of Venous Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) is a common syndrome seen in vascular surgery, with an incidence of 0.3-2%, the majority of patients being female (4:1) and aged 25-40. There are three main forms of TOS, neurogenic, venous, and arterial, all of which are discussed with the primary focus on venous TOS. Anatomy of the thoracic outlet, including the subclavian vein, artery and brachial plexus as well as compression sites including the scalene triangle, costoclavicular space, retro-pectoralis minor and a cervical rib are variables to consider in this patient population.
