Effect of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy in open flap debridement in the treatment of peri-implantitis: A randomized controlled trial

Peri-implant diseases are a group of inflammatory processes which are characterized by bleeding and/or suppuration (peri-implant mucositis) and if untreated, may lead to radiographic evidence of bone loss around dental implants [peri-implantitis (PI)] [1,2]. A group of bacteria has been associated with peri-implant destruction [3]. The complex microbiota poses a clinical challenge for clinicians in the treatment of PI.
