Longevity of anterior restorations

General dental practitioners (GDPs) spend the greatest proportion of their time placing or replacing dental restorations. Most are directly applied with composite resin, amalgam, or glass ionomer cement, with composite resin coupled with an adhesive technique the preferred approach. Although data on posterior restorations are abundant, those on anterior restorations tend to be limited. Anterior restorations appear to have different failure behavior than posterior restorations, having less caries but more trauma and wear.
