Background: As specialty medication utilization and associated costs grow, the specialty pharmacy has become ubiquitous in delivery of these medications. Limited payer contracting and antiquated pharmaceutical distribution practices divert IDN based specialty pharmacy volume to for-profit companies which leads to compromising local clinical care of IDN patients and increases total health care costs.
