Pharmacist delegation: An approach to pharmacy technician regulation

A recent paper highlighted new rules of the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy (BOP) that broadened the ability of pharmacists to delegate tasks to pharmacy technicians.1 The expanded duties included tech-check-tech, administering vaccines, accepting verbal prescriptions, transferring prescriptions, and performing remote data entry. The rules took effect in March 2017, and pharmacies have implemented the expanded technician duties to varying extents, with immunizations seeming to have the most uptake.
