Conclusion

As health care professionals it is important that we are attuned to changing epidemiology of emerging threats —whether respiratory or vector borne. There are many changes in demographics and society that can confer benefit to communities, and pose new challenges to the health care system. Among these is the growing number of infectious that have previously been considered rare to North America, but with c hanges in climate, travel/migration patterns, and adaptability in pathogens as well as their hosts, clinicians in the United States can expect to see diseases that may have been unfamiliar to them in practice, and underemphasized as rarities in training.
