Lung cancer can be defined as an out-of-control, malignant growth that develops in the lung tissues causing tumourous growths [1 –4]. Lung cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide, with an estimated death rate of 1.4 million cases each year [5]. Moreover, it is expected that the lung cancer mortality rate will increase up to 3 million cases by 2035 [6].
