Rapid fully automatic segmentation of subcortical brain structures by shape-constrained surface adaptation

Accurate and robust segmentation of subcortical brain structures from structural Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has gained attention in recent years, since it supports the diagnosis and follow-up assessment of many neuro-degenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer ’s disease (AD), multiple sclerosis (MS) or Parkinson’s Disease (PD), mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), as well as other Neurological an Psychological disorders, including depression and epilepsy (González-Villá et al., 2016).
