Comment on: Inflammatory myopathy associated with anti-mitochondrial antibodies: A distinct phenotype with cardiac involvement

We read with great interest the report by Albayda and colleagues [1] describing the association between serum anti-mitochondrial antibodies (AMA) and a specific phenotype of inflammatory myopathy with heart involvement. In this retrospective study conducted on a large population of patients followed at the Johns Hopkins Myositis Center in the years 2009 –2015, 7 cases tested positive for AMA. This result was first described using a myositis serum autoantibody panel assayed by the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF), based on the combination of techniques such as immunoprecipitation (IP) with HeLa cell lysate, immuno-diffusion with calf th ymus extract and immunofluorescence on Hep-2 cells.
