For better or worse, a half century of learning electrocardiography and teaching it to medical students, residents, fellows, and clinicians has left me with rational and irrational prejudices. Predominant among the irrational prejudices has been a belief that no single ECG textbook can adequately serve as an introduction to the field and also be a useful reference book to own. To understand the ECG, you have to know some basic facts, but facts and criteria alone do not lead to real understanding of the ECG.
