Comments on death due to non-traumatic hemoperitoneum in Milan 2002 –2016, with focus on two cases of abdominal apoplexy (idiopathic spontaneous hemoperitoneum) and review of the literature

We have read with great interest a remarkable article regarding two cases of the idiopathic spontaneous hemoperitoneum [1]. Recently, we encountered a similar case of abdominal apoplexy at our department. By means of this letter, we would like to share our recent experience and scrutinize some key issues which we feel need further discussion to shed light on this mysterious nosological unit.
