Towards a Swedish identity in consultation-liaison (CL) psychiatry and psychosomatics – Re-foundation of the Swedish Association of CL Psychiatry

In contrast to many European countries, Sweden has not yet implemented consultation-liaison (CL) psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine into clinical care. There are few tertiary care hospitals offering more than on-demand acute psychiatric consultations. Some services, e. g., cancer or pain treatment centres, employ mental health professionals and psychiatrists. However, these services are in most cases not based on a CL service and psychiatrists can often be “lone enthusiasts”. Psychosomatics, as a subspecialty, does not exist in Sweden.
