Preoperative gait asymmetry in end-stage unilateral ankle osteoarthrosis patients

Ankle osteoarthrosis (AOA) is a chronic progressive and degenerative disease, which affects the quality of life of the patients as a result of pain and progressing deformity. The most common cause of AOA is trauma [1 –3]. The mental and physical impact of AOA is noted to be comparable to that of end-stage hip osteoarthrosis [4]. Surgical treatments to reduce pain and increase functional capacity are available for end-stage AOA. The most common surgical option is ankle arthrodesis (AA), which involves fusion of the tibiotalar joint.
