Percutaneous fixation of avulsion fracture at the plantar lateral base of the first metatarsal using ZipTight Fixation System: A case report

Avulsion fractures of the plantar lateral base of the first metatarsal are well-known to occur with tarsometatarsal joint injuries (Lisfranc injury) that involve medial displacement of the first metatarsal. According to Myerson ’s classification of the tarsometatarsal injuries, the appearance of this avulsion fracture can be seen with type B-1 and C injuries. Type B1 injuries are identified by partial incongruity caused by medial displacement of the first metatarsal alone. Medial displacement of the first metatarsal with concomitant lateral displacement of one or more of the lesser metatarsals creates a divergent deformity classified as Type C injury [1].
