Oscillating devices for airway clearance in people with cystic fibrosis

Cystic fibrosis is a hereditary disorder, which causes hypersecretion of respiratory mucus. Chronic chest infections and airway inflammation leads to decreased respiratory function and early death. Chest physiotherapy is routinely applied to clear the airways of mucus for people with cystic fibrosis. Currently, chest physiotherapy is started at initial diagnosis. Depending on the age of the individual, chest physiotherapy traditionally involves manual therapies, which requires another person to perform the techniques of percussion and vibrations, with the addition of postural drainage when necessary.
