Travel medicine related to the El Camino pilgrimage

I read with interest a recent paper on pilgrimage travel [1] and I believe that pre-travel advice for pilgrims is becoming more and more important. Obviously, the Hajj pilgrimage is relevant due to the huge number of participants. However, I would like to draw your attention to another lesser known pilgrimage: the Saint James Way (the “El Camino”). This medieval pilgrim's way is more than 800 km long and the number of participants is continuously growing. In 2016, some 278,000 pilgrims accomplished this (in travel medicine terms) long distance hike [2].
