Chronic oral ulceration and lip swelling after a long term stay in Guatemala: A diagnostic challenge

A 55-year-old German traveler presented to our clinic with an oral ulceration and swelling of the upper lip. The patient described gradual onset of a gingival swelling, slowly progressing into a painful ulceration and swelling of the lip over a period of 4 months (Fig. 1). He had no further complaints. He returned to Germany recently after a 3-year stay in Guatemala.
