A Fragility Index: Handle with Care

Criticizing P values never goes out of style. A person looking for examples of misinterpretation and miscalculation will not search long.1 More damning, the P value answers a question the reader may not have even asked, unless of course they like to frame their questions conditioned on a null hypothesis. The fragility index points out yet another flaw in relying on a dichotomous threshold for significance. The index highlights how conclusions based on P values close to the threshold could be dependent on a few cases going the right way.
