Primary evidences of the mechanisms of action of HIV aspartyl peptidase inhibitors on Trypanosoma cruzi trypomastigote forms

Chagas disease is a well-known endemic and neglected disease in Latin America which is caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi. Additionally, the illness has also become a public health problem in North America, many European and some Western Pacific countries due to population migration from endemic areas [1]. According to estimates, from 7-10 million people are chronically infected with T. cruzi and 10-14 thousands of deaths per year are caused by the parasite [1].
