Diagnostic accuracy of multiplex real-time PCR approaches in compared with cultivation -based detection methods: Monitoring the endopathogenic microbiota pre and post photo-activated disinfection

Endodontic infection also known as polymicrobial infection of the dental root canal system forms the primary etiological agent of the periradicular inflammatory diseases [1]. Calcium hydroxide (Ca[OH]2), chlorhexidine (CHX), and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) are widely used as the intracanal medication in clinical practice [2]. The endopathogenic microbiota cannot be completely eliminated from the root canals using these chemo-mechanical antiseptic agents, and may also achieve resistance against the disinfecting agents and endodontic medicaments [3].
