Raising the profile of long term conditions in Parliament

On Monday 11th September, our Policy and Public Affairs team attended a Parliamentary drop-in to help MPs understand more about the needs of people with long term conditions. The event was coordinated by the Richmond Group, a coalition of 14 leading health and social care organisations - including Arthritis Research UK - who work together to influence policy and practice.The organisations that make up the coalition represent 15 million people with long term conditions in the UK who regularly need to rely on health and care services. We work together to campaign for improvements, and ensure that everyone with a long term condition receives high quality, and timely, health and care services.The events focused on the 5 priorities featured in the Richmond Groups‘Agenda for the next government’ including:Timely access to high quality health and social careIncreased funding and more sustainable models for health and careSufficient numbers of health and care staffEffective coordination of services, staff and dataInvestment in preventionMPs were given a personalised briefing with local and national statistics, as well as having the opportunity to meet people living with long term conditions.Catherine Manning is an Arthritis Research UK campaigner and attended the event to speak to MPs and other decision makers about the challenges of living with arthritis:“I had a great time attending the parliamentary drop in and found it very interesting.
