Fuller et  al (p. 476) analyzed data from a nationwide cross-sectional survey to examine the relationship between sensory impairments and cognitive and functional difficulties. They found that the estimated nationwide prevalence of self-reported serious vision impairment (SVI) is 2.8%, serious hearing impair ment (SHI) is 6%, and serious dual sensory impairment (DSI) is 1.6% among 7 210 535 individuals aged 45 or older from the 5-year American Community Survey 2011–2015 Public Use Microdata Sample.
