Thalamostriatal and cerebellothalamic pathways in a songbird, the Bengalese finch

This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. We demonstrate the existence of a thalamostriatal system in a songbird, the Bengalese Finch, by using a lentiviral vector that specifically labels presynaptic axon terminal segments. Specifically we show that in the song system thalamic nucleus DLM projects to basal ganglia nucleus Area X. We also map the cerebellar‐recipient regions of dorsal thalamus (DTCbN), and show that a dorsal anterior subregion of DTCbN projects to Area X, while ventral posterior subregions project to medial striatum outside Area X.
