Multiscale Deep Neural Networks based analysis of FDG-PET images for the Early Diagnosis of Alzheimer ’s Disease

Alzheimer ’s disease (AD) accounts for about 50-75% of all types of dementia, affecting 1 out of 9 people aged above 65 years (Kawas, 2003; Alzheimer’s and Association, 2011). It is characterized by progressive cognitive decline such as deficits in memory, attention and executive function. Although curren tly there are no treatments for curing AD, there are several promising pharmacologic compounds in advanced stages of development, and it is expected that a breakthrough in treatment will be achieved very soon.
